Our Mission

Ouch, My Ego! is a South-Texas based cultural project. We are an organization made up of artists, musicians, and writers. We want to help facilitate the growth of creative expression in the RGV.

OME! started out as a humble zine in early 2004. Our founder’s original vision was to build a medium that could host the creative work of his closest friends and cohorts; it has since evolved to serve a need – to shed light on the thriving pockets of creativity throughout the Valley. Eventually, the zine graduated to a fully-staffed blog, annual publication, podcast network and events outfit.

We aim to be the information hub for independent culture in the Valley. Our website hosts all the details on local creatives, such as new content from favorite bands/artists and a calendar featuring events Valleywide. If there’s a rad band coming down to play, a new album from a local band, a fresh artist getting his work out, or an awesome local event – we will be there to put a narrative behind their story. Our columns feature original content from people in their field of choice. You’ll find anything and everything from recipes from local chefs to tech tips from total nerds to fashion advice from those who know.

What do we do?!

Blog: Our blog is a mix of interviews, thoughtful musings, and local announcements. Keep abreast of all things RGV in this section.

  • FEATURE ARTICLES: Find your art, music, and other interesting stuff here!
  • SERIALS: See what’s really going on inside the minds of OME!’s staff of talented writers. Sometimes thoughtful, sometimes funny, always rad.

PodCasts: OME! hosts regional podcasts of all kinds– listen to them here on the mother site, or search for us on iTunes, google play, or your favorite podcast manager!

Bands & Artist Profiles: Browse through our archives of local doers and shakers. You can find a listing of artists, musicians, venues, and other neat offerings from the RGV!

Zines: All of our issues (past and present) are uploaded here in all their wonder! Additionally, we aim to be the area’s go-to source for zines. If you’re a zinester, send us your stuff, and we can add you to the library!

Events: OME! has always hosted its fair share of wacky events, which of course are featured here! In addition, we strive to cover as many of the RGV’s coolest events as possible.

George Dean

George Dean – A Cult Classic

George is a Jack-of-all trades and runs this show. He’s had a long time presence in the RGV’s music and art scene. Excels at the internet.

Elbee Bargeron

Elbee Bargeron – Copy Editor

Transplanted from Tennessee to the RGV in April 2015, Elbee still wonders why 70 degrees is considered “cold weather.” She’s getting used to the heat, though, one chamoyada at a time.

Andrew Bargeron

Andrew Bargeron – Art Director

For decades, Andrew has killed it in the world of illustration and graphic design (check out his skills at gimetzco.com – and even on this site!). Here at OME!, Andrew wields another mighty talent at creating, recording, and editing our podcasts. In his spare time (what spare time?!), Andrew enjoys making up silly songs to sing to his cat and dog.

Join our growing team!

If youre interested in becoming part of the team, give us a hollar! We’re always looking for fancy writers, photographers, videographers, and idea slingers!
