Monday kicked off the first day of summer, and the weather has been nothing short of 1,000 degrees daily. May be a bit exaggerated, but Rio Grande Valley residents know every day in the summer is hotter than the last.

Why am I bringing up the terrible heat? Well, for some people, sweating can force your makeup to slide right off your face. It’s horrifying. Imagine spending hours on your makeup for a baby shower or an outdoor concert only to have your eyeliner smeared and your foundation on your clothes. HALLLPPP!

Powder

There are many high end and drugstore products that can be used to set your makeup to avoid greasy situations. I personally took a product my mother has been using for years and added it to my collection, the Coty Airspun Translucent Extra Coverage Loose Face Powder.

Careful when using loose powder for your face, it can get a little messy. Airspun can be used with a powder puff or a powder brush to limit fallout.

This product makes me feel fabulous. I feel like a pin-up girl with my big powder puff, dabbing powder all over my face. You never have to worry about applying too much because you can take a large powder makeup brush and blend it all away after you are done. Airspun retails for no more than $7 at Target, Walmart, or Walgreen’s.

Setting powders with rave reviews include: Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder (Sephora, $38), Sephora Collection Smoothing Translucent Setting Powder (Sephora, $16), RCMA Makeup No Color Powder (Beautylish.com, $12)

Setting Sprays

After completing your makeup look, you can use a setting spray all over your face to seal your look in place. I did have to shop around for something that would make my look last more than a few hours since I have major grease problems in my T-Zone.

I found that Urban Decay’s De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray really worked for my skin type. The brand also offers two other setting sprays, the All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and the Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray. These sprays retail for $14 or $30, depending on the bottle size.

This Urban Decay setting spray retails at $14 for 1 ounce. If you want more bang for your buck I reccomend the 4 ounce bottle for $30.

I also purchased the Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray from NYX, and though it helped my makeup last a little longer, it did not compare to Urban Decay’s line. Some of these sprays can also keep your skin hydrated while simultaneously giving you a glow or look of dewy, healthy skin.

Setting sprays with rave reviews: NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray (Target, $8), Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Setting Spray (Sephora, $30), MAC Prep + Prime Fix + (MAC stores, $22), Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist (Sephora, $48)
