In part 3 of the Basic Face Tools, I’m moving on to blending brushes.
Blending brushes can have short or long fibers, and are used to merge shadows for a seamless finish. One of my favorite brushes is the Sigma E40 which retails for $16.00.
I’d say blending brushes are probably the easiest to use out of all of the face tools. The only issue is the amount of time spent blending. The goal is to keep your eye look cohesive with no harsh lines.
Step 1: Grab your brush
Step 2: Dip your brush into a light transition shade (A color that is close to your skin tone)
Step 3: Place the product on your crease line, and use windshield wiper motions – This will move the product along the crease of your lid
Step 4: Dip your brush into more shadows, and repeat
You can use the brush to add more neutral shades, or dip into darker colors to create a nighttime look. Doing “windshield wiper” motions with the blending brush keeps the shadows even, and alleviates any issues with patchy eye shadow.
Once again, blending is simple enough, but depending on which shadows are used, you could be blending anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
A tip that will shave time off your application process is after placing shadow on your lid, use the brush in a circular motion with little to no product; this can help the transition of colors as well. You never want your shadow to look chunky, unless of course, that was the look you were going for in the first place.
That’s what is great about makeup, you can make it all your own. Trends come and go, but as long as you love what you create, that is all that matters.
