The film: Hard to be a god
The guest: Travis Trapp
Travis and I spent the better part of a day traversing this muddy and disgusting film. Based on the acclaimed science fiction novel of the same name by the Strugatsky brothers, it is directed by Aleksei German. Filming began in Autumn 2000 and completed in 2006. Years into editing and post production, German died, leaving the epic for his son (also named Aleksei German) to complete. The end product is bizarre and challenging, and our intrepid viewers (that’s Travis and me) reveal that even they kinda liked it? Maybe you will too.
