A few weeks back, I talked about some of my favorite hair products. Now I’m back for more “hair shares”! This time I want to cover how I wash and maintain my hair.

I’m very much like the average person: I use regular shampoos and conditioners, nothing really fancy. When you are on a budget, you kind of get whatever you can get your hands on. I am fortunate to have a lovely mother and coworker who coupon. So I get them goods on the cheap (by cheap, I mean free). Thanks, Mom and Elvira!

Though, I did want to take the time to share that I do have to buy a special shampoo that is specific to my scalp needs. I inherited a very mild form of psoriasis which is basically like dandruff, and can result in crazy itching, especially in the winter when the air is a little dry.

This Neutrogena therapeutic shampoo works great to eliminate flakes immediately

So I do use Neutrogena T Gel Shampoo to keep my scalp hydrated and comfortable. It retails for about $13.99 at places like Target and Walmart. This product does include coal tar, and yes, it’s basically tar in a bottle. It has a very strong odor, and has a thick, dark brown consistency.

Now, some readers may be thinking “Ewwww,” and I’m right there with you. But, I thought I would still share, for those of you who have the same issue and don’t have hundreds of dollars to see a dermatologist. This product can help in just one week (Keep in mind I’m not a dermatologist in any way, shape or form. This is not a cure, just a preventative shampoo.).

Moving on, as I mentioned in my first hair product article, I have hair that can get greasy between washes. I also usually try not to put conditioner anywhere near my roots because it can end up a greasy mess.

When I attended Beautycon Dallas, we were given multiple products in a goody bag. Among those items was the Eden Bodyworks All Natural Cleansing CoWash Coconut Shea. This product retails for about $8.99 at Target.

This Eden BodyWorks CoWash is great for removing residue and buildup between regular washes

I love this so much! Honestly, it sat in the bag for a few months before I decided I wanted to try it. It smells delicious, and it has thick consistency like conditioner. Personally, I wash my hair every 2 days. Otherwise…grease ball.

The cowash is a great way to clean your hair between shampoo cycles. So I will wash my hair Monday, skip Tuesday and Wednesday, and use the CoWash on Thursday. Even if you use stuff like gel, mousse, or hair spray, all of that residue and product will be washed out with this product. It also leaves your hair feeling healthy and rejuvenated.
